Basic Vertical

Aim

The aim of this course is to qualify participants to undertake vertical rescue operations as a member of a rescue team.

Description

Vertical rescue requires operators to correctly identify and use suitable access and recovery equipment combined with protocols to provide emergency response options in the case of an accident at heights or depths. 

Participants will be required to operate independently and as part of a team to complete the successful recovery of casualties from heights or depths. 
 

Duration

A notional time of between six and nine days is suggested and would be related to the participant’s degree of exposure vertical rescue. This varies with different work groups requirements.

Accreditation

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Risk Response & Rescue Certificate as well as a Nationally Accredited Statement of Attainment.

  • Identifying Hazards and Risks
  • Undertaking operations in accordance with OH&S procedures, legislative and operational guidelines
  • Preparation, inspection, carriage and stowing of equipment
  • Environment considerations
  • Individual vertical mobility
  • Rope rescue techniques
  • Casualty care

 

Pre-Requisites

Assessment

Participants must be able to:

  • Implement height safety procedures
  • Identify hazards and risks
  • Detail safe work requirements
  • Demonstrate the different techniques
  • Manage and escort casualties under adverse conditions

Course Material
