Advanced Vertical

Aim

The aim of this course is to extend the participants’ vertical rescue skills and adapt them to hostile environments.

Description

The course is intended for rescue operators who want to undergo further training and open up their scope of skills to a variety of challenging environments.


It is also suitable for senior operators or rescue instructors who want to develop their scope of skills in order to access or ascertain a leadership role.

Duration

Courses can be conducted over a minimum nominated time of 5 days.
Optional days can be added for specific environments and/or techniques:
  • Casualty care/packaging
  • Specialised hardware equipment
  • Alpine (snow/ice/crevasse)
  • Canyoning
  • Industry
  • Caving
  • Maritime
  • Aviation

Unit/s of Competence

This course is aligned to a number of nationally recognised units of competency relating to the specific disciplines and industry sector.

Accreditation

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a relevant Nationally recognised certificate of attainment supplemented by a Risk Response + Rescue Certificate of Competency.

  • Terminology and Definitions
  • Identifying Hazards and Risks
  • Undertaking operations in accordance with OH&S procedures, legislative and operational guidelines
  • Preparation, inspection, carriage and stowing of equipment
  • Environment considerations
  • Advanced individual vertical mobility
  • Advanced rope rescue techniques applied to various environments
  • Casualty care
  • Use of specialised equipment

Pre-Requisites

  • Above average levels of fitness
  • Strong swimmer for canyoning, swift water & marine  disciplines.

Assessment

Participants must be able to:

  • Implement height safety procedures
  • Identify hazards and risks
  • Detail safe work requirements
  • Demonstrate the different techniques
