Structure Climbing

Aim

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to climb a man-made structure.

Description

The course is intended for employees with a need to climb a structure when when no other means of access is available.

Duration

Nominated time of 1 day. Additional time for complex climbing techniques.

Unit/s of Competence

There is no recognised Unit of Competency awarded for this course.

Accreditation

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Risk Response & Rescue Certificate of Participation.

Course Content

  • Terminology and Definitions
  • Identifying Hazards and Risks
  • Undertaking operations in accordance with OH&S procedures, legislative and operational guidelines
  • Preparation, inspection, carriage and stowing of equipment.
  • Science of heights
  • Different belaying techniques

Prerequisites

There are no specific pre-requisites for this course although participants should ensure they do not suffer from vertigo (dizziness at heights) or acrophobia (fear of heights).

Assessment

Participants must be able to implement height safety procedures, identify hazards and risks and detail safe work requirements. They must also be able to operate whilst wearing safety equipment and explain emergency response and rescue procedures.
