First Aid

Aim

The aim of this course is to provide these life skills, in accordance with industry guidelines, such that participants are confident to provide First Aid when the need arises.

Description

This program provides the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

Duration

16 hours (2 days or split into a self-paced module and an 8 hour instructor led module).

Accreditation

Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and a Risk Response & Rescue Certificate of Completion.

Course Content

  • Anatomy.
  • Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines for the provision of first aid.
  • Principles and concepts for practicing first aid.
  • Procedures for dealing with major and minor injury and illness.
  • Priorities of management in first aid when dealing with life threatening conditions.
  • Basic occupational health and safety requirements in the provision of first aid.
  • Infection control principles and procedures, including the use of standard precautions.
  • Chain of survival.
  • Skills and limitations of first aiders.
  • First aid management of common conditions.
  • Stress management facilitators and how they can be accessed.
  • Social & legal issues such as duty of care, diversity, debriefing & confidentiality.
  • Casualty assessments and decision making.
  • Safe manual handling of casualties.
  • Incident reporting and communication.
  • Self-evaluation.

Assessment

Assessment is conducted by Risk Response & Rescue using evidence of skills and knowledge obtained throughout the program.

  • This is a WorkCover approved course equivalent to Senior First Aid.
