Critical Incident Management - Develop Initial Emergency Response Capability (DIERC)

Aim

The aim of this course is to train and assess participants in the competence required to design, conduct, assess and evaluate real life emergency response/preparedness scenarios in the workplace.

Description

The intention of this course is to increase participant awareness of the key factors for workplace emergencies prior to the arrival of emergency services or specialist response teams. The course will provide successful participants with the competency and resources to plan, audit, and improve workplace emergency response preparedness.

This course includes the designing of initial incident response scenarios, managing workplace emergency response teams, creating an emergency response plan, developing appropriate testing, identifying & reviewing applicable workplace procedures for implementation into close to reality scenarios.

Accreditation

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and a Risk Response + Rescue Certificate of Competency stating the information covered, duration of training, date of issue, location of training and general remarks.

Pre-requisites

This course does not require participants to have high levels of technical skills in relation to emergency response. It does however require solid understanding of the site for which the emergency response is required & knowledge of any emergency response equipment (use & maintenance) likely to be utilised in an incident on site.

There are no formal pre-requisite units required for this course under the AQF.

Assessment

To achieve competency, participants must demonstrate a minimum level of skill and knowledge in accordance with the unit/s of competence and be able to transfer their skills and knowledge to other contexts. Participants are required to demonstrate competency of their ability to manage workplace initial emergency response teams, construct an emergency response plan, develop appropriate testing, & identify and review appropriate procedures.

Course Material

Each participant will receive a Risk Response + Rescue learning and support materials and templates to test, review and debrief workplace emergency procedures.
