Basic Outdoor Course

Aim

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to rock climb autonomously outdoors.                                                                  

Description

This course is intended for climbers who want to gather the knowledge and skills necessary to climb safely outdoor on bolted single pitch climbs.

Duration

This is a one day course.

Unit/s of Competence

This course is not nationally accredited as it covers more than the requirements of the accredited competency (lead climbing).

However, participants will be awarded the following unit:

Accreditation

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Risk Response & Rescue Certificate of attainment.

  • Identifying Hazards and Risks
  • Science of falls
  • Standards
  • Preparation, inspection, carriage and stowing of equipment. 
  • Leading
  • Belaying
  • Anchors
  • Environment considerations

Pre-Requisites

There are no pre-requisites to this course.

Assessment

Participants are required to maintain safety while climbing, belaying and setting up top-ropes.
