Undertake Hover-Exit Operations From Helicopter

Aim

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to hover exit or enter a helicopter.

Description

This course is designed for personnel whose work requires the competency to hover exit or enter a helicopter when the degree of the slope or the nature of the ground prohibits a safe landing.

Duration

The course can be conducted over a nominated time of 1 day.
Duration will vary with different work groups’ requirements.

Accreditation

Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and a Risk Response & Rescue Certificate of Completion.

Course Content

  • Terminology and Definitions
  • Identifying Hazards and Risks
  • Undertaking operations in accordance with OH&S procedures, legislative and operational guidelines
  • Types of landing techniques
  • Site selection for hover-exits
  • Preparation, inspection, carriage and stowing of equipment prior to, during and following exiting from the helicopter
  • Correct method of carrying various types of equipment
  • Following instructions and procedures within the helicopter
  • Correct procedures for entering and exiting from the helicopter including correct sequencing of activities from different heights and on different terrains
  • Actions to minimise movement during ascent and descent from helicopter
  • Safety and emergency procedures

PUAFIR209A Work safely around aircraft

Assessment

Participants must be able to:

  • Undertake operations in accordance with OH&S procedures, legislative and operational guidelines
  • Prepare, inspect, carry and stow equipment prior to, during and following exiting from the helicopter
  • Follow instructions and procedures within the helicopter
  • Apply correct procedures for entering and exiting from the helicopter including correct sequencing of activities
  • Demonstrate of hover-exit procedures for exiting from different heights and from different helicopters
