Standards of Work & Conduct
General Work Rules Policy
RR+R has established guidelines concerning standards of conduct and work rules for the benefit and protection of the rights and safety of all employees and to assist in the orderly and productive operation of the business.
The inappropriate conduct or infractions of work rules listed below normally call for some form of disciplinary action. In some cases, the action may result in either verbal or written warnings or reprimand, followed by suspension and discharge if repeated. In other cases, the employee may be subject to immediate discharge. All disciplinary actions are "at will" and do not require prior notice.
The types of misconduct or infractions identified below are merely examples of conduct that may lead to disciplinary action. They are not a complete list of all types of conduct that can result in disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal. (see Staff Dismissal Policy)
Attendance and Punctuality
RR+R employees are expected to have regular attendance and to report to work in accordance with their established work schedule.
Absence for three (3) days without approval is considered a voluntary resignation.
Dress
This policy gives the general policy for Risk Response + Rescue standard of dress. The image of RR+R and the pride and self-esteem of its Staff depends upon the maintenance of the highest standards of dress, appearance and bearing.
It is the responsibility of all staff to maintain their uniform in good order and repair and present the highest possible standards of appearance. The wearing of RR+R uniforms during any activities not associated with work is not allowed.
Unless otherwise stated, orders of dress apply to both female and male staff.
The following styles are not to be worn; singlets, thongs, and any clothing with obscene or offensive motifs and like items.
The standard of personal dress, appearance and grooming is to be such as to reflect credit on the individual and on RR+R. The intent of RR+R is to ensure that a high standard of grooming consistent with that expected of a professional organisation.
Dress must firstly comply with any site policy. Safety boots are to be worn on all courses and when working with equipment. This includes areas designated for storage of RR+R equipment.
Elimination or Minimisation of Risk
It is the policy of RR+R to promote a high level of technical and personal safety in order to protect employees, course participants, visitors and all others while they are on RR+R premises or engaged in RR+R business off site.
All employees are responsible for knowing and observing safety rules, elimination of hazards or the minimising of risks, and reporting unsafe conditions or practices. Everyone must be safety-conscious and immediately report unsafe acts or hazardous conditions to the theor resposible manager.
The Managing Director must ensure safe sytems of work in order to provide a safe environment that allows RR+R to meet or exceed applicable local, state and commonwealth laws, standards, ordinances and other regulatory requirements.
Employees are required to use any protective devices, which are provided or required as they deem appropriate and are cautioned not to remove safety devices from tools or equipment. In cases where professional certification is required to perform job functions, the certification must be on file with the Training and Office Manager before the work is performed.
In case of an accident involving a personal injury, regardless of how trivial or how serious, it is important that the Managing Director be notified immediately. Failure to report accidents can result in a violation of legal requirements, and can lead to difficulties in processing insurance and benefit claims.
Employees injured on the job are, in most cases, entitled to benefits under Workers' Compensation. RR+R carries Workers' Compensation insurance.
Drugs and Alcohol
RR+R endeavours to ensure that an employee's use of either alcohol or drugs does not impair the safe and efficient running of the organisation, the health of all employees or the damage of either equipment or property.
Instances of proven drug or alcohol misuse at work will be investigated in both a sympathetic and confidential manner.
Employees are expressly forbidden to consume alcohol whilst working. Any breach of this policy will result in disciplinary action.
Employees who partake of drugs which have not been legally prescribed on medical grounds will, in the absence of mitigating circumstances, be deemed to be committing an act of gross misconduct and will thus render themselves open to disciplinary action (up to and including
dismissal) as will any employee proven to be possessing, buying, selling or cultivating unlawful drugs on RR+R property/premises.
If an employee is known to be, or strongly suspected of being, intoxicated by alcohol or drugs during working hours and they are incapable of carrying out their normal duties in a safe and efficient manner arrangements must be made for the employee to be escorted from RR+R
property/premises immediately.
RR+R employees are subject to any drug and alcohol policies at sites where we conduct work.
