Occupational Health & Safety

Policy

 

The majority of our work is in OH&S and all trainers are specifically qualified and experienced in this area.

 

The organisation considers the health, safety and welfare of all employees, participants, clients and visitors to the organisation to be of the utmost importance. The organisation is committed to providing and maintaining a comprehensive OH&S program that complies with all  current legislation and regulations and makes a safe working and learning environmenta priority under the current OH&S (NSW) 2000 No.40. We will take all reasonable measures to ensure the health and safety of our employees and all others lawfully on premises under our control.

 

Responsibilities

  

All staff members share the responsility for OH&S by following policies, legislation and programs to ensure their own health and safety and that of others in the working and learning environment.

 

Directors and trainers are responsible for ensuring that OH&S principles are promoted and implemented in the learning/training environment. This includes demonstrating and monitoring to ensure that: the learning environment is safe and proper use and handling of equipment and resources; accidents and hazards are reported to the director and OH&S requirements are integrated into course planning, delivery and curriculum.

 

Occupational Health and Safety Program

  

RR+R is committed to providing an on-going OH&S program which includes:

 

  • Dissemination of up to date information and resources to staff and participants.
  • Reporting and recording of accidents, incidents and injuries involving; staff, participants, clients or visitors.
  • Safety rules and emergency procedures including evacuation.
  • The incorporation of OH&S into course planning, delivery and curriculum.

 

Duty of Care

  

We will observe our Duty of Care in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000 and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation 2001. In particular, we will:

 

  • Ensure that all premises under the organisation's control, and all plant, equipment, and materials used by the organisation on those premises, are safe and without risk to the health and safety of its employees, participants and others using the premises.
  • Negotiate the work with the controllers of premises we occupy under rental agreements to ensure that those premises are also safe.
  • Maintain an ongoing Risk Management program to identify, assess, and eliminate or control any risks arising from hazards at our premises.
  • As part of our committment to Risk Management, conduct a workplace inspection of premises used by RR+R, and take prompt action to address the risks identified.
  • Ensure that staff are aware of our OHS requirements and observe them. We incldude OHS requirements in our induction program and advise employees of legislative changes and other new developments as they occur.
  • Ensure that instructors advise participants at the first session of every course of any safety issues associated with the course and the procedures to be followed to ensure their health and safety.
  • Provide each instructor with a copy of the emergency/evacuation procedure for the site with each class roll and require instructors to advise participants of the procedure at the first session of each course. Instructors to complete their Class Rolls at the commencement of each session and ensure that in the event of evacuation they keep the Rolls safe and check on the presence of each participant during and after, the evacuation.
  • Maintain emergency and evacuation procedures for each workplace. Notices in each classroom and the RR+R office will advise people of the action to be taken in the case of fire, accidents or other emergencies, and the location of First Aid Kits.
  • Maintain an Incidents Register, which shall be in the control of the Office Manager.
  • Prohibit smoking on premises used by RR+R.

 

Fire Safety

  

  • RR+R will observe all relevant fire safety requirements. Fire fighting equipment will be checked bi-annually at each major site (in accordance with relevant safety standards.)
  • Site Coordinators will exercise general oversight of fire safety requirements at their sites.

 

Duty to Consult

  

We will observe our Duty to Consult with employees under the Act and Regulation and will:

 

  • Adhere to the commitments RR+R has made in its OH&S Consultation Statement
  • Adhere to the consultation process agreed with employees to directly and regularly consult with them through newsletter, email, telephone, and staff meetings. The RR+R will keep employees advised of OH&S matters in an OH&S Newsletter.
  • Seek employees’ suggestions for maintaining safe work practices and safe workplaces.
