S1 2.0 Avalanche Transceiver

Autoscan

Automatic switch-over.

In highly dangerous situations, every second counts. You get more and more nervous. Stress. Fear. You can’t remember the simplest things. For these reasons the s1 starts the search without any additional commands or the need to specifically press buttons. As soon as you open the s1, it’s automatically in search mode.

There are two basic functions:

  • Transmission: The s1 is turned on when closed. The transceivers, two blinking lateral visual indicators, can always be viewed because the practical neoprene-bag has special openings for it.
  • Search: As soon as the s1 is opened it automatically switches to the search mode. But the s1 is even more intelligent: If the s1 is not moved for a certain length of time, it switches back to the transmission mode on its own. This increases your safety in case of a second avalanche.

Overview

Detailed analysis of the situation.

Find all your friends with the Ortovox s1 transceiver. The large display unit gives a detailed overview of the situation and helps to make the search as efficient as possible. Information about the distance and the position of the buried victims make it possible to analyze the situation and to coordinate the helpers within minutes.

With the s1, the search for multi-burials is proven to be more successful. Tests have shown that the s1 takes, on average, half the time of other avalanche transceivers to search for three
victims.

Navigator

Navigation that leads to the goal.

The line of arrows indicates a quick, safe and reliable way to the victim. This technology is used in aviation and has been used for the first time in the development of avalanche transceivers by Ortovox. The line of arrows points towards the symbol of the buried person and indicates the direction of walking.

With the s1 you save time that can save lives. Why?
It’s simple: rather than following arrows that constantly change direction, the display indicates the direction in which the buried victim is located. The person searching is directed by a line of arrows that always follows the field line.

Pin Spot

Visual pinpoint.

Experience shows that most time is wasted when performing the pinpoint search. But it’s exactly this wasted time that buried people, struggling to breath, don’t have.

This is why Ortovox has developed the patented circle method. With this method buried victims are located more easily, quickly and precisely than when using other avalanche transceivers.
It visually and acoustically directs in precise five centimetre steps whether you are getting closer or whether you are moving further away from the victim. This provides a new level of precision and speed.

People who have experienced how much time is saved when using an avalanche probe effeciently, will know how valuable a precise pinpoint search is.
